Not your average shoot ‘em up game, RetroQ is about cubes. You are a cube and so are your enemies. Cubes have faces… and they shoot out of their cube shaped heads. They can shoot in four directions – up, down, left and right – and so can you. Confused? Either way, that’s what RetroQ is about and no matter which way you slice it, it doesn’t make much sense. But, does that make it less fun? Not in the slightest.
Trying to return fire to your enemies is quite difficult. In order to hit them, you have to be in a position to be hit by them. Attempting to focus on one may allow you to be under attack by at least three others. However, at your aide are several power-ups, these can be collected by destroying a golden enemy who constantly moves around the edge of the screen.
Not always as easy as it could be, RetroQ is a different type of shooter and will require patience upon your first play. Persistence is the key to understanding and progressing in this often times strange and unique game.
